Casting Call - The Meaning of Fio - 2008/02/02 10:46
CASTING CALL
Submersive Films is casting 3 roles for a low / no budget short film. 'The Meaning of Filo' is the story of an alcoholic who is having reoccurring nightmares about his own death. Setting forth on an inward journey manifested through his dreams, he is ultimately forced to confront his disease in order to save his own life.
NON - UNION. Actors will be paid 100.00 / day with overtime pay for days that go over 8 hours. Meals provided.
Shooting will begin February 24th and run until March 30th. All shooting will take place in San Francisco at locations that are situated on Bush St. between Leavenworth and Jones, except for one scene that will take place in the basement of Old First Presbyterian Church on Sacramento and Van Ness. There will be a 2 week break in shooting between March 11th - March 22nd.
BOB (Lead Role): Male, 50's. Severe alcoholic. A disabled construction worker who makes a living as a plumber on the side. The film begins with Bob drinking non - alcoholic beer and ends with his supporting a gallon of vodka per day habit. The role has some brief nudity (walking from bed to kitchen in nothing but underwear) and requires a good deal of physical activity. There will be some brief fight scenes (nothing fancy - pushing, shoving, falling over, etc...). Character must feel comfortable looking "unflattering" in front of a camera. Must be available all dates between Feb. 24th - March 28th except for the break mentioned above.
MRS. FELLINI (Bob's love interest): Female, 50's or 60's. Severe alcoholic. A widow, Mrs. Fellini has lived in the same apartment for over 30 years where she harbors a drinking habit that could rival a frat house. Though there are no love scenes, one scene consists of she and Bob waking up in the same bed so as to suggest a night of passion had just occurred. No nudity, but Mrs. Fellini should have bare arms and shoulders to suggest that she wears nothing under the covers. Costume will consist of a nightgown and not much else. Character must feel comfortable appearing "unflattering" in front of a camera. Must be available from March 3rd - March 6th.
BILL (Bob's A.A. sponsor): Male, 40's. Bill is a recovering alcoholic, having been clean and sober for 16 years. He is a physical fitness instructor. He is Bob's sponsor, and leads the A.A. meeting that Bob attends (one of the scenes we will be shooting). Character takes part in a brief fight scene where he gets tripped and falls onto a mattress. (a person will kneel behind his legs while another one pushes him backward, much like a schoolyard prank). Must be available on Feb. 28th - Feb. 29th, and again on March 7th.
There are no rehearsal dates. All rehearsing will be done in front of camera.
Auditions will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 16 - 17, from 10:00AM - 6:00PM at:
Film Arts Foundation 145 Ninth Street #101 San Francisco, CA 94103 Between Mission St. and Howard St.
Each actor will be given a 15 minute slot in which to audition. Please submit head shot and resume to Chris (director / writer) at mofcasting@submersivefilms.com. The full script is available on submersivefilms.com.
